Let's talk about Stranger Things

First of all, if you haven't seen Stranger Things, I strongly suggest it be the next Netflix show you binge watch. But I just wanted to use this opportunity of being able to talk about whatever to fully appreciate the outfits in the show.

So, the show takes place in the early 1980s and I need to give kudos to the costume designers because they did a really good job of making the characters look like they are in the '80s. And for someone who didn't get to grow up in the '80s, I could really get a feel for what it was like, at least fashion wise. For each character, the outfit they wore really reflected their personality and to which ever character I related the most to, I could really get inspired and think about which '80s fashion clique I would fit into.

Related imageI keep denying that the '80s are coming back but after seeing the show I actually wouldn't mind some of the jackets and overall outfits the characters wore. I will still deny the neon everything and power one shoulders but I can deal with the shoulder pads and the turtleneck sweaters with high waisted jeans. But now, I really need to hand on one of those corduroy or jean jackets with the wool lining.

Also, Barb made me really want a pair of those glasses even though I don't wear glasses so yeah. She rocks them.

Also I wanted to add that this inspiration behind this topic was from when I was going through my feed on SoundCloud and I came across a remix by Wiz Khalifa over the Stranger Things intro song so if you want to listen to it, here's the link https://soundcloud.com/wizkhalifa/stranger-things-ft-jr-donato

Fashion Classics

Image result for 1980s jeans
Image result for 1970s jeansFashion classics, first one that comes to mind is of course a nice, reliable, good ol' pair of jeans. I hate wearing jeans, I hate buying jeans, I hate sitting down in jeans, I hate bending over in jeans, I hate just about everything about jeans. But when I found this one pair, light wash, boyfriend fit(they're my dad's old jeans, you've probably seen them in a couple of my OOTDs), then I distressed them to how I wanted because sometimes stores go overboard or do a weird arrangement of tears, but I got them to how I wanted them to look and now they are actual heaven. So comfy, so great, so soft, they look good on me and I love them.
Now jeans weren't popular for the common person when they were first made. They were originally designed during the Gold Rush in the 1850's(thanks 4th grade history) after they discovered a use for the indigo plant dye, and used it to stain the jeans for the minors and workers who came to California looking for gold. Then from there, they were mainly used for the working class, especially for manual/physical workers. Not until the 1950's were they finally worn as a fashion statement for teen rebellion. Guys, jeans were considered rebellious in the '50's. But after their rebellious phase, they became practical wear for everyone in the 1960's and since then, have always been in fashion, just with little variations from bell bottoms to acid wash.

Trends

Kylie Jenner ♥ fancytemplestore.com I think everyone knows what a fashion trend is, right? Well, just to clarify, a fashion trend is basically a clothing/makeup/shoe item or style that is really popular in your city, state, country, or even the entire world. Most people when you ask them if they like trends, they always say "I don't like to follow trends because I'm my own person and I like to start my own trends." or something like that. But, unpopular opinion, I actually really like trends and it's sort of a hobby of mine keeping up with trends and what's in style. Following trends allows me to get inspired and put my own spin on a trend by blending multiple styles trends together. Like right now I'm really obsesses with the whole "twitter baddie" trends where their makeup is all fleeky, the faux suede bodycon dresses with some cool sneakers(Adidas, Nike, Jordans, Pumas, etc). Another unpopular opinion, I actually get a lot of fashion inspiration from Kylie Jenner. Yeah, I know, "omg the Kardashians and Jenners are soooo fake and they bought their fame" blah blah blah, whatever, to be honest, I don't really care. Kylie Jenner's outfits are super cool and she's always killin' it even if she's in sweatpants, so yeah, thank you for calling me a Kylie Jenner wannabe because that is completely true. If you like it or not, Kylie Jenner has a huge influence on teen fashion right now as well as her entire family. Big fashion influences for me right now besides Kylie is Zendaya. I think it actually was Zendaya who first got me wanting to experiment with my style and get out of my famous "13 year old girl on tumblr" phase. She's also just a genuinely good and confident person so that also helped me break out of my shell and start buying clothes out of my comfort zone. Probably because I would stalk her instagram like everyday and look at her pictures, sighing at all the clothes she had that I wanted. That's another thing, trends used to start in big cities and in more populated areas, but now, if you want to look for what's trending, you go to the "Look What's Trending" page on twitter to find out. The internet is the biggest trend setter in the entire world. Posts are reposted, retweeted, reblogged, shared, everything like that and fashion ideas are spread around the world in minutes. Sometimes, the clothing items are even linked in the description so if someone likes what the model is wearing, they can get it themselves, take a picture of it and show their friends, and so on and so on.

Which couturier are you going to feature in your paper? Why did you choose this person to learn more about?

So, for fashion design class, we have to pick a haute couturier to write a paper about. After going to Wikipedia to find out who were actual haute couture designers, there was of course Coco Chanel, Valentino, Christian Dior, etc, but then I when I read Versace, I got that song "Versace, Versace, Medusa head on me like I'm..." That sealed the deal right there. Just kidding, not really, but what really got my interested was when I looked up Donatella Versace, one of the highlighted quotes on her wiki page is "Creativity comes from a conflict of ideas" and that just got to me because something I always say when I'm starting a new art project or I have to write a narrative essay. I immediately get all these ideas but then I can never decide between them when it comes to the final product. So, they always end up a conflicted mess until I finally get it together and make some cuts or change things around. But when I read that quote, I was like, "THAT'S ME!!!" Now I know she isn't the original founder which is Gianni Versace, but Donatella just had me intrigued. Then I started exploring around the Versace online store and I was looking at their Fall Winter 2016 Women's Collection, and I genuinely liked the line. A lot of the outfits I would actually wear(ya know, if I was rich and wanted to use that money to buy a $6,000 jacket). But they would be clothes that if I saw in a store I would be like "yaaassss bb this'll slay everyone in sight" sort of thing. What I also noticed about the collection is that it incorporated the colors of the year which if you didn't know, Pantone announced the color of the 2016 are the colors of 2016, making a whole balance pairing theme with them being rose quartz and serenity. I don't know I thought that was cool. But yeah, definitely recommend you check out the Versace line, not to necessarily buy something but maybe for some inspiration.
