Halloween Fashion

TIME FOR ANOTHER BLOG IN ALL CAPS!!

HALLOWEEN IS MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY, YES OVER THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS, EVEN MY BIRTHDAY. EVERY YEAR I GO ALL OUT AND I TRY TO DO SOMETHING THAT INVOLVES MAKEUP OR SOMETHING SCARY. SO FRESHMAN YEAR I WAS A ZOMBIE(unfortunately I don't have a picture), AND THAT YEAR WAS REALLY FUNNY BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I MADE A COSTUME AND THE MORNING BEFORE SCHOOL I TOOK AN OLD SHIRT, TORE IT UP, PUT ON SOME JEANS THAT I HAD TORN HOLES IN THE KNEES FROM FALLING OFF BIKE AND STUFF. THEN THIS WAS ALSO THE FIRST YEAR I STARTED GETTING INTO MAKEUP AS WELL SO I ORDERED A BUNCH OF BEN NYE COSMETICS ONLINE AND MADE MY OWN WOUND ON MY SIDE. I JUST REMEMBER EVERYONE WAS REALLY GROSSED OUT WHICH IS AWESOME AND ALSO THAT NIGHT I HAD TO FLY TO COLORADO FOR A TOURNAMENT AND I WENT TO THE AIRPORT IN MY COSTUME AND PEOPLE THOUGHT I WAS ACTUALLY HURT. THEN SOPHOMORE YEAR I WAS EVAN PETERS(Tate from American Horror Story) AND EVERYONE THOUGHT IT WAS SUPER COOL AND THEY WERE EXPECTING A LOT BECAUSE OF THE YEAR BEFORE AND YEAH I JUST REMEMBER I REALLY SCARED MY CRUSH AT THE TIME BECAUSE USUALLY PEOPLE EXPECT GIRLS TO BE LIKE A CAT OR SOMETHING BUT I LOOKED LIKE THAT SO. MY FAVORITE ONE SO FAR IS MY JUNIOR YEAR COSTUME AND I WAS A 1950S COMIC BOOK WOMAN AND JUNIOR YEAR I HAD ZERO PERIOD(means school started at 7 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. for me) SO I HAD TO WAKE UP AT LIKE 4 IN THE MORNING TO DO MY MAKEUP AND I WAS STILL LATE TO SCHOOL. OH WELL I STILL LOOKED COOL AF.

THIS YEAR NEEDS TO TOP ALL OF THE OTHER YEARS AND AT FIRST I WANTED TO RECREATE MY ZOMBIE COSTUME BUT DO IT WAY BETTER AND SCARIER AND BLOODIER. BUT WHEN STRANGER THINGS CAME OUT I WAS REMINDED OF MY LOVE FOR WINONA RYDER SO I HAD TO DEDICATE THIS HALLOWEEN TO ONE OF HER FAMOUS ROLES, SO THIS YEAR I'M GOING TO BE LYDIA DEETZ FROM BEETLEJUICE.

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN BEETLEJUICE I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU WATCH IT BECAUSE IT'S A CLASSIC AND IT'S AMAZING.

BUT WHEN YOU ARE GETTING A COSTUME IT'S WAY CHEAPER TO THRIFT THEM OR USE OLD CLOTHES YOU DON'T WEAR ANYMORE FOR YOUR COSTUME INSTEAD OF GOING OUT AND BUYING A REALLY OVERPRICED ONE. ALSO, THIS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE THE EXACT SAME COSTUME AS YOU, THEY MIGHT BE THE SAME CHARACTER, BUT YOU DIDN'T BUY THE SAME SET FROM THE SPIRIT STORE. ALSO, IF YOU'RE GOOD AT HAIR, MAKEUP, DESIGNING, ETC, PICK A CHARACTER WHERE YOU CAN SHOWCASE YOUR SKILLS IN ANY OF THESE. AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CRAFTY BONE IN YOUR BODY, JUST MAKE A PUNNY COSTUME AND YOU'RE GOOD!

Distressed Jeans(Where to get cheap jeans and distress them yourself)

Okay I really love distressed jeans and especially boyfriend jeans, but I could never find boyfriend jeans to fit me because I'm a bit curvy. Also most boyfriend jeans are just baggy girls jeans and girl jeans just never seem to fit me right with my huge butt and thighs with smaller waist. They always are made the opposite of how my figure is with no thigh room, butt room for practically pancakes, then the waist having a three inch gap away from my body. So, to solve this problem, I stole my dad's old Levi jeans. Yes, I stole my dad's jeans, distressed them too so he won't be getting those back oops. You've probably seen pictures on my OOTD because I probably wear them at least twice a week and they're titled "distressed pants - Levi(they're my dad's old jeans that I distressed myself)"(I recently changed the caption to just "jeans - Levi's" because typing the first one out all the time was annoying). Although I do not want to promote you stealing your dad's jeans, I do suggest going thrifting in the men's section(the men's section in thrift stores and just clothing stores in general are a whole other blog), but I've really been into just thrifting cheap men's jeans then distressing them myself. You can get name brand jeans like Levi's, Calvin Klein, True Religion, etc for super cheap. I just got these Calvin Klein jeans at Saver's for I think $8 and they're in really good condition.

Anyways, why pay full price for jeans you're going to distress anyway, like what if you mess up or something and end up hating the final product, at least you didn't pay over a hundred dollars for jeans you'll never wear right? But yeah, got these Calvin Klein jeans and as soon as I got them I knew. I knew they wanted me to to the hole under the butt thing(refer to image to the left). So, that is one of my side projects right now is distressing these jeans to how I like them.

To distress jeans if you don't know how, you can a sanding tool to wear them out, a cheese grader, nail files, pretty much anything with a rough surface to get that initial roughed up look. Now if you want to learn how to do the whole white thread going horizontal holes,

I'm going to leave a link to some helpful videos I found on YouTube that helped me figure it out

How to master being lazy but cute at the same time(plus other lazy hacks)

Sweatpants are a must in everyone's closet for those days when you just want to be cozy and comfy all day during all those miserable classes we have to sit through. And I get it, when you wear sweatpants, sweatshirt, and some form of Ugg boot combo to school, you are officially done with the day and you're counting the seconds until you get to leave so you can go home and nap forever. But, then there's that one friend who whenever you're looking especially ugly will make you take a selfie with her for her snap story, but she looks all cute and you look well not cute. Well, I have a solution plus some major hacks to life so that you can achieve your ultimate lazy form without having to fear about ambush off guard pictures of you from your friends.

Just so you know, I am known for this at my school for looking cute even though I'm dressing way way down. The trick is, you wear the sweatpants and comfy shoes for optimal comfort for your bottom half, then wear a crop top or some other type of solid color shirt that coordinates with the color of your sweatpants then BAM! cute outfit from waist up because your legs and shoes are going to be covered by your desk anyways so they don't matter! Then there's a question, "what if my arms get cold during class?" The amazing gift that baggy sweatpants bring are that they are so baggy and you can just shove your arms into the legs of the sweatpants and it's all good. "But won't that look weird?" Well you can maybe get a laugh out of you friends and as for the other people, you probably hate them anyway so who cares!! "What if I don't have any friends?" This trick will make a lot of them for you because they'll be like "whoa she's so cool, she shoved her arms down her sweatpants to keep warm, now I wan't to get to know her because she seems like a unique and creative person." "What if I don't want any friends or any new friends?" Well, just throw in a hiss or two and that will keep everyone a good 15ft away from you at all times. Win, win.

Additional lazy person hacks in list form:

  • wear the sweatpants you're going to wear the next day to bed because then you don't have to change in the morning
  • always have an abundance of dry shampoo at all times, tilting over borderline hoarding point
  • when you buy shirts, get mostly solid colors that match with every bottoms and jackets you know, then you can wear the same shirt a few times a week but no one can tell because you changed your pants or wore a different jacket
  • buy shoes that don't require tying and if they have laces just loosen them up and tuck the ends under your feet and they instantly become slippers
  • when you get socks, get cool and colorful ones with crazy patterns on them so you never have to match them, and if someone asks you can just say they came that way
  • ponytails all day everyday when you want your hair out of your face because sometimes messy buns just don't work out
  • if you still want to wear makeup but not totally beat your face for hours just for school, brow pencil in your eyebrows, little concealer under the eyes and mascara will do the trick to not look totally dead
  • live off your friends food at school so you don't have to bring your own and just treat them later to ice cream over the weekend or something when you feel up to it, they will be very appreciative
  • you can also just throw some Cinnamon Toast Crunch in a bag and that's good too, plus this is also an option for those who are how you say, broke, to pay back your friends

okay well these were some hacks to the lazy life and if these are helpful, you're welcome, and if you're like, "I ALREADY DO THESE", then feel free to add some in the comments

Teamwork

For school, whenever we are assigned group projects, I usually take the creative role because most of my group members would rather do the analytical and research part of the project while I focus on the symbolism in the illustrations and overall visual of the presentation. They don’t feel as comfortable with art as I do so I gladly will take the job of designing and creating the poster or presentation. But since this is a fashion design class, mostly everyone is taking it because they are creative and artistically talented and also serve the same group role that I usually do. So instead of having creative control over the entire project, I will have to collaborative to come to a group agreement over how the final piece should look like. I can’t just rely on my own ideas and having creative freedom over the project without someone else’s input interfere with my original vision. Everyone’s style is different so when their vision is as strong as mine, we can sometimes butt heads when trying to agree on how something should look. This sounds selfish and conceited I know, which is why I like doing art related things on my own. Cons of group work is if two or more people want to be in charge of a job or role, then deciding on who gets to do it or how they will fit both ideas into the same space is always tough. Pros of group work though is if that doesn’t happen, and everyone finds something they would rather do more than something else, then everyone is happy and they get to do what they want with the part they like to do. In groups I usually take the leadership role, because in small groups, my voice is loud and decisive that has an idea of the outcome in my head before it’s finished. Then if people have something they think would work, if it does, then it is integrated. Idk I just work better independently and I don't have to worry about anyone letting me down except for myself.

https://popbabble.wordpress.com
When I first saw the whole hat turned sideways trend in the Chanel ready to wear collection, the first thing that came to my head was that old song from American Idol from 2009-2010 and if you don't get that catchy song stuck in your head just from hearing "hat turned sideways" well heres a link to spark your memory, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMwhl4IrPNc

I'm also sorry for making you listen to this again because now it's going to be stuck in your head for the next few weeks!!

Chanel Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear Collection Photos - Vogue
http://www.vogue.com/

Ugh, I don't know about this... wearing a hat sideways can go way wrong way too fast, especially now. This feels way too early 2000s for me and I'm just not ready for wearing jeans under dresses, Juicy everything, and Von Dutch hats ya know. I'M NOT READY. Just looking up early 2000s fashion makes my entire being cringe and sad that people thought they looked good. The 2000s were dark times for the fashion world.

I can't think about it anymore I getting too cringed.

Dear Chanel, I love your work and I love your ready to wear collection, just please don't make sideways hats okay to wear again, the world hasn't recovered yet and probably never will.

Let's talk about Stranger Things

First of all, if you haven't seen Stranger Things, I strongly suggest it be the next Netflix show you binge watch. But I just wanted to use this opportunity of being able to talk about whatever to fully appreciate the outfits in the show.

So, the show takes place in the early 1980s and I need to give kudos to the costume designers because they did a really good job of making the characters look like they are in the '80s. And for someone who didn't get to grow up in the '80s, I could really get a feel for what it was like, at least fashion wise. For each character, the outfit they wore really reflected their personality and to which ever character I related the most to, I could really get inspired and think about which '80s fashion clique I would fit into.

Related imageI keep denying that the '80s are coming back but after seeing the show I actually wouldn't mind some of the jackets and overall outfits the characters wore. I will still deny the neon everything and power one shoulders but I can deal with the shoulder pads and the turtleneck sweaters with high waisted jeans. But now, I really need to hand on one of those corduroy or jean jackets with the wool lining.

Image result for stranger things outfitsSo I guess I like more of the jewel and earth toned fashion from the '80s and not as much the '80s VHS tape jazzersize instructor lady with the big permed hair and the neon pink sweat bands.

Also, Barb made me really want a pair of those glasses even though I don't wear glasses so yeah. She rocks them.

Also I wanted to add that this inspiration behind this topic was from when I was going through my feed on SoundCloud and I came across a remix by Wiz Khalifa over the Stranger Things intro song so if you want to listen to it, here's the link https://soundcloud.com/wizkhalifa/stranger-things-ft-jr-donato

OKAY THIS PART OF THE BLOG IS GOING TO BE IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE HARRY POTTER SO YUP HERE WE GO. SO, I WAS SHOWING MY FRIEND IN FASHION DESIGN CLASS WHO'S A REALLY BIG HARRY POTTER FAN WHO SOMEHOW DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE POTTERMORE WEBSITE WAS SO OF COURSE I HAD TO SHOW HER. OH AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS WEBSITE IS BECAUSE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN HARRY POTTER OR JUST DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT HARRY POTTER(which makes me really sad if you don't) IT'S THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE RUN BY J.K. ROWLING HERSELF AND THE QUIZ TO FIND WHICH HOUSE YOU'RE IN IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER ONLINE QUIZ YOU'VE TAKEN BEFORE AND ACTUALLY ASKS QUESTIONS THAT ARE MORE IN DEPTH INTO YOUR PERSONALITY AND YEAH. ALSO, SINCE THE NEW MOVIE, FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM,IS COMING OUT IN NOVEMBER, J.K. ROWLING RELEASED ON POTTERMORE A BACKSTORY FOR THE AMERICAN SCHOOL, ILVERMORNY. I'LL POST LINKS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BLOG TO THE BACKSTORY AND A YOUTUBE VIDEO THAT EXPLAINS IT AND SUMS IT UP. SO BECAUSE OF THIS, YOU CAN FIND OUT WHICH ILVERMORNY HOUSE YOU'D BE SORTED INTO. AND ANOTHER FEATURE IS FINDING OUT WHICH WAND WOULD CHOOSE YOU.

Fashion Classics

Image result for 1980s jeans
Image result for 1970s jeansFashion classics, first one that comes to mind is of course a nice, reliable, good ol' pair of jeans. I hate wearing jeans, I hate buying jeans, I hate sitting down in jeans, I hate bending over in jeans, I hate just about everything about jeans. But when I found this one pair, light wash, boyfriend fit(they're my dad's old jeans, you've probably seen them in a couple of my OOTDs), then I distressed them to how I wanted because sometimes stores go overboard or do a weird arrangement of tears, but I got them to how I wanted them to look and now they are actual heaven. So comfy, so great, so soft, they look good on me and I love them.
Now jeans weren't popular for the common person when they were first made. They were originally designed during the Gold Rush in the 1850's(thanks 4th grade history) after they discovered a use for the indigo plant dye, and used it to stain the jeans for the minors and workers who came to California looking for gold. Then from there, they were mainly used for the working class, especially for manual/physical workers. Not until the 1950's were they finally worn as a fashion statement for teen rebellion. Guys, jeans were considered rebellious in the '50's. But after their rebellious phase, they became practical wear for everyone in the 1960's and since then, have always been in fashion, just with little variations from bell bottoms to acid wash.
